Mothers are the best. Before we're even born, they feed and shelter us, put up with bodily aches and pains, and give up any semblance of a regular sleeping schedule for almost twenty years (or whenever we finally move out). They deal with our incessant wailing as infants, our toddler tantrums and--worst of all--our adolescent angst with little thanks for their patience and time.
My mother was my very first role model in philanthropy. She taught me some of the most important lessons in kindness and generosity that I know, including:
- Help others when they struggle.
- Contribute to society whatever you can of your time and talents.
- Share your cookies, especially the last one.
- Always bring a gift when visiting.
- Tell people you appreciate them.
- Give hugs.
What are some lessons that your mother (or a mother you know) taught you?
