Bicycle Wheel is considered the first of Marcel Duchamp’s Readymade series. Duchamp, a Dadaist regarded as one of the fundamental minds that changed the landscape of painting and sculpture in the early twentieth century created his Readymade works from found objects that were then transformed into sculpture pieces. Bicycle Wheel, a bicycle wheel mounted upside down on a stool was created by Duchamp in 1913 simply because he enjoyed looking at it. Decades later Duchamp decided it was a readymade. The original Bicycle Wheel was unfortunately lost and subsequently recreated in 1951.
