It really seems like there are so many amazing artists around us who are struggling to get noticed and get their art out there. This can be frustrating, but great projects everywhere are aiming to help these talented people garner a larger audience. Like Papergirl, many of these projects attempt to bring art to the masses in a unique and fun way. An exciting event in Vancouver and many other Canadian cities is called Art Battle. Art Battle is a competition which drags painters out of their studios and puts them up against one another in a race against time. The artists must complete a painting in only twenty minutes in front of an audience, a fact which really puts the pressure on and lets the audience have a window into the enigmatic world of the artist's creative process. As an audience member you will also get to vote for the winner as the competition closes! This is such an inclusive way to get people interested in art and look past the idea that only experts can enjoy paintings and the painting process.
If you would like to attend, there is a battle tomorrow, Tuesday May 14th at The Fan Club (1050 Granville Street) and doors open at 7:00 pm. You can purchase tickets online or at the door for $15. For more information on this particular Art Battle (number 54), check out their website at http://artbattle.ca/art-battle-54-vancouver/ or if you would like to learn more about the larger project and how to join, head over to http://artbattle.ca/.
