Inspired by art crawls, we thought it'd be fun to take a virtual look inside the homes of some of our team members to see what art they have surrounding them. We're hoping to spark some thoughts about how art is different to every person, as well as reflect upon what we have chosen to hang on our walls or display on a shelf -- and why. Art has the amazing capacity to be whatever a person decides it is, whether it is a painting by a famous artist or a drawing by your child or a found photograph. We hope you enjoy these glimpses into the art that we treasure and take comfort in!
Our first art tour is brought to you by Julie, our Photographer Superstar:
A year and a half ago, I sold or gave away most of my stuff and left Canada to travel. Upon my return, I moved across the country from Montreal to Vancouver which required getting rid of even more of the things I had kept. As a result, I have a lot of empty white wall space in my current apartment! However, when looking around at what I do have I realized that most of my art is attached to memories of two things: friendship and travel. Whether it is framed postcards sent to me by friends on their own journeys or a pair of earrings that I picked up in a crowded market on the other side of the world, art, to me, has the powerful ability to bring me back to another time and place, and to remind me of people that I love and miss dearly.
