Papergirl Vancouver is an inclusive, non-commercial art project that brings people together in celebration of art and community in an unconventional way: through the spirit of altruism.
In this annual project, artists of all ages and abilities are invited to donate their work to a non-juried exhibition. Afterward, the artwork is rolled into bundles and is distributed by a team of cyclists (in the style of the American paperboy) to anyone they meet along specific bike routes around Vancouver.
We are looking for team members for 2014! In joining our dynamic member of dedicated volunteers you will help bring Papergirl: Art of Giving Art to the people of Vancouver.

PR & Communications Role Description: Exciting opportunity for a reliable, confident and highly motivated individual interested in public relations and communications to join our team at Papergirl Vancouver helping to get the word out about all things Papergirl Vancouver related! The ideal candidate will have a great writing style, the ability to take initiative, and a strong interest in communications/PR/ Marketing, as well as an enthusiasm for the arts, community and of Papergirl Vancouver. This position will be working hands on with the Papergirl Team Leaders, focusing on getting us representation on various media outlets such as newspapers, blogs and various online news outlets.

Each volunteer is required to:
- Attend our Team Kick off meeting March 13th
- Be able to commit 5-10 volunteer hours from March 13-August 8th 2014
- Attend a monthly team meeting and report back to the team on their progress
- Use our online project management system. We will train you on this at our kick off meeting
- Be able to attend 3 of the 5 core events in July. We will discuss this at our team kick off meeting

Tasks & duties
- Taking the lead on the Papergirl Vancouver's PR strategy, working to develop campaigns that drive traffic and increase awareness of the project
- Develop plans for the various Papergirl Vancouver 2014 media outreach in collaboration with the Team Leaders
- Writing press releases and sending them out.
- Research press leads and making contact with various sources at the newspapers, magazines and radio stations.
- Promoting Papergirl Vancouver to the public, both local and global.
- Working with volunteers towards the marketing of Papergirl Vancouver
- Work closely with the Papergirl Vancouver Social Media Coordinator and Team leaders to achieve project goals.
- Research and development if required
Deliverables
- Updated press releases.
- Contributing to Papergirl Vancouver Newsletter and Blog
- Produce a final report of lessons learned and suggestions for next year
- Securing guest bloggers for the Papergirl Blog and Opportunities for Papergirl Vancouver to be featured on other blogs
Skills and Experience
- Excellent writing skills and strong interest in writing
- Self-starter and proactive personality
- Interest in the media and PR
- Attention to detail and professionalism
- Enthusiasm for Papergirl Vancouver
- Experience of writing pieces for websites or newspapers or keen interest to develop professionally in these areas
- Good telephone manner (if comfortable will pitch to media over the phone)
- Presentation/public speaking skills – opportunity to deliver presentations
